How Much Do You Know About Tithing?

Can a man rob God and continue to be bless? You may not realize it, but this earthly money doesn't belong to us. It belongs to God and it is because of Him that we are able to have such possessions like: food, clothing, cars, houses, and land. See, God doesn't benefit from money...it's already his! God gets the glory when we act in obedience and acknowledge that because of him we have.

Tithing is defined as a "tenth part". The tithe is "first fruit" of your increase. The principle behind your tithe being your first fruit is you are recognizing God as your source of supply; He is the cause of your prosperity. Therefore, the tithe is not any tenth of one's income; it is the first tenth of one's income. Leviticus 23:10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest . It is recommended that every time we get paid to give ten percent of the gross amount from your check to God.  Yep, that's right-just 10%, which isn't very much. For example: $1250 x .10 = $125 tithe)of your pre-tax income (gross income) and could be as much as God leads you to tithe above 10%. The 10% tithe is a starting point.

Certainly, we all could be bless in our finances. So, what are other reasons other than receiving an abundant of cash flow for our finances on why we should tithe. We should tithe because it is a spiritual command from God to: walk in obedience to God's Word, to support the work and vision of my local church, to cause the windows of blessings to open for me because of my alignment with the Word of God and continuing having a blessed life by including Him in my finances.

Can a man rob God and continue to be bless? Well, a man did robbed God and his demise was death. Let's be mindful of what happened to Ananias and his wife Sapphira. They both robbed God and lied.

When you tithe you are showing a gesture of gratitude for the many things He has done. Thank you God, because without you I am nothing!

  1. Although there is no mandate for tithing in the New Testament, every Believer should always give God their best in service and resources, as act of gratefulness for what the Lord has blessed them with. Tithing is not just about money, but it's also about the investment of your time, talents and resources, in Kingdom work.
