Black Women: Does Twerking Empower You?

A University of Texas student by the name of Kimari Carter won a  $50,000 scholarship given by rapper, Juicy J for the best twerking video. But it's not what you think. Even though the message was unpleasant to others, Carter turned it into something sort of positive. During an interview with MSNBC Melissa Harris- Perry, Carter seemed to be encouraging women to keep twerking as a source of “empowerment.” Kimari Carter said that there's a cultural context of twerking. Although, there might be some truth in this; however, we still believe that twerking doesn't empower women.
